Buying Graduate Management Programme

Buying Grad Hero

Our Buyers play a major role in influencing every aspect of the range of goods that we offer to our customers: from which products we sell, to the way they look and taste, developing our supply base and continuing to drive our market-leading position.

This programme will take you through an intense, challenging but incredibly rewarding two years of structured development. You'll experience everything from working in our stores, to negotiating products and contracts, all on an international scale. This role offers the long-term scope to become a permanent Assistant Buying Manager with opportunities for further long-term progression.

Our Junior Buyers thrive in our fast moving, highly pressured environment where everyone has a voice and we want to hear yours! This role is about having a passion for food retail and the desire to become an expert in your field. We look for individuals who are self-motivated, intuitive with a desire of going above and beyond their expectations. Our 960 + Stores depend on you when choosing the right products for our customers.

The process will also include a video interview and an assessment day.

Lidl grads. Big buying power.

Meet Maddy, current Buying grad.

What you'll do

So what does a typical day look like for Maddy?

“There's definitely no typical day in buying, but a here's an example: 8am: Start my day 9:30am: Morning team catch up; we touch base every morning with the immediate team to pick up any issues and discuss what we are going to work on in the day. 11am: Kitchen session, sampling supplier submissions against benchmark products and feeding back to the supplier. 12pm: LUNCH 1pm: Meetings with internal teams to discuss all things product. These can be with Branding and Packaging, Supply Chain, CSR, Marketing etc. 3pm: Store visits: Once a week we head out to stores to look at the market, see any new developments, exciting launches, changing in packaging. 5pm: Emails, emails, emails: Responding to emails or calling suppliers to make sure everything is running smoothly. 6pm: Finish for the day Supplier interaction and negotiating are a large part of my role and can be challenging. You both want what's in the best interests of your individual party and ultimately, it's about finding that sweet spot where you can both get what you want. At times that is challenging, but that's the nature of the job. And you don't shy away from it.”
